Meeting Table Sizes: How Big for 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 People
A meeting table that is too small feels cramped. One that is too big blocks the room and leaves no space to pull out a chair. Getting the size right is one of the simplest ways to make a meeting room work.
This guide shows the right table size for 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 people. It also shows how much room space you need around the table, so you can check the fit before you buy.
Quick Answer: Meeting Table Size by Number of People
Use this table as a starting point. All sizes are in centimetres and use a standard table depth of 120 cm unless noted. You can compare real sizes and finishes in our range of meeting tables for office boardrooms.
| People | Comfortable table size | Tight fit | Minimum room size |
| 4 | Round, 110 to 120 cm across | Rectangle, 160 x 80 cm | 3.2 x 3.2 m |
| 6 | 240 x 120 cm | 200 x 100 cm | 4.4 x 3.2 m |
| 8 | 320 x 120 cm | 240 x 120 cm (with end seats) | 5.2 x 3.2 m |
| 10 | 420 x 120 cm | 320 x 120 cm (with end seats) | 6.2 x 3.2 m |
| 12 | 540 x 120 cm | 420 x 120 cm (with end seats) | 7.4 x 3.2 m |
The minimum room size allows 100 cm of clear space on every side of the table. For a more comfortable room, allow 120 cm instead.
How We Worked Out These Sizes
Every size above comes from two simple rules. Knowing them lets you check any table, not just the ones in this guide.
Space per person
Most planning guides allow 60 to 75 cm of table edge for each person. We use 75 cm because it leaves room for a chair with arms, a laptop and a notebook.
To find how many people fit along one side, divide the table length by 75 and round down. A 320 cm table gives 4 seats per side, so 8 people can sit along the two long sides.
Seats at the ends
A 120 cm deep table fits one person at each end. Adding end seats turns a 6-seat table into an 8-seat table. But end seats are often the least comfortable, especially if table legs sit in the corners.
Meeting Table Size for 4 People
For four people, a round table 110 to 120 cm across works best. Everyone can see each other, and nobody sits at the head of the table. A 120 cm round table has about 377 cm around its edge, which gives each person more than 75 cm.
If you prefer a rectangle, choose at least 160 x 80 cm. An oval table around 200 x 120 cm also works and can seat up to six when needed.
For quick calls of two to four people, a meeting pod may suit you better than a table. This comparison of meeting pods and meeting rooms shows how each option uses floor space.
Meeting Table Size for 6 People
A 240 x 120 cm table is the most common choice for six people. It seats three people on each long side, with 75 cm of edge each.
If your room is small, a 200 x 100 cm table can seat six in a tight fit. Leave the ends free so people can move around easily. This desk and table spacing guide explains how much walkway space to keep.
Meeting Table Size for 8 People
For eight people, choose a 320 x 120 cm table. That gives four seats on each long side and leaves the ends free for a screen or presenter.
You can also fit eight around a 240 x 120 cm table by using both ends. This works for short meetings, but it feels crowded for long sessions.
Meeting Table Size for 10 People
A 420 x 120 cm table seats ten people along the sides, five per side. This is a good size for a boardroom that hosts weekly team meetings.
A 320 x 120 cm table can also seat ten if you use both ends. Before you choose chairs, check their width and arm style in the meeting chairs for conference rooms. Wide chairs can reduce the number that fit.
Meeting Table Size for 12 People
For twelve people, a 540 x 120 cm table is the comfortable choice. It seats up to seven people per side, so twelve people have extra elbow room.
A 420 x 120 cm table can seat twelve with both ends in use. Ask if a long table comes in two or more sections, which makes it easier to carry into lifts. Check what a full delivery and installation service covers before you order.
How Big Should the Meeting Room Be?
The table is only half the plan. People need space to pull out a chair, sit down and walk behind others. Allow at least 100 cm between the table edge and the wall, and 120 cm where people walk behind seated guests.
Plan for wheelchair users too. Under the US ADA Standards, a seated space at a table needs an ADA clear floor space for seating of 30 by 48 inches, or about 76 x 122 cm. In Dubai, check your fit-out against the Dubai Universal Design Code, which Dubai Municipality issued to make buildings accessible for people of determination.
Here is a quick guide to room size, using 120 cm of space on every side:
| Table size | Room size needed | Floor area |
| 120 cm round | 3.6 x 3.6 m | About 13 sq m |
| 240 x 120 cm | 4.8 x 3.6 m | About 17 sq m |
| 320 x 120 cm | 5.6 x 3.6 m | About 20 sq m |
| 420 x 120 cm | 6.6 x 3.6 m | About 24 sq m |
| 540 x 120 cm | 7.8 x 3.6 m | About 28 sq m |
If the room is shorter than you need, choose a shorter table rather than squeezing people in.
Round, Oval or Rectangular?
The table shape changes how a meeting feels. Pick the shape that suits how your team talks.
| Shape | Best for | Watch out for |
| Round | 4 people, informal chats | Hard to add extra seats |
| Oval | 4 to 6 people, client meetings | Curved ends need more room length |
| Rectangular | 6 to 12+ people, formal meetings | People at the far ends can feel left out |
Rectangular tables are the most flexible for offices. They fit square rooms well, and many come in several lengths with the same design.
Other Things to Check Before You Buy
A few small details make a big difference once the table is in place.
- Height: most meeting tables are 72 to 75 cm high. This sits inside the ADA range of 710 to 865 mm for work surfaces.
- Legs: check where the legs sit. Corner legs can block end seats, while loop or panel legs may affect knee space.
- Power: plan cable access for laptops and screens before you order.
- Delivery: check the table size against lift and door widths.
Laptops need power, so plan where cables will run. A flip-up box set into the tabletop keeps plugs neat, and you can see options in these top access and cable management accessories.
